26 boys on the ’09 AGHS Track and Field team

The 2008 Track campaign gets out of the starting blocks on Saturday, March 21st at the Doane College Indoor Invitational. This year’s boys team will be extremely young, as the squad is comprised of 13 freshmen and 11 sophomores on a team with 26 members. There are many talented young tracksters looking to go to State and compete at Burke Stadium at the end of the year. Returning letterwinners include sophomores Reid Beranek, Ben Fiene, Shane Meyers, Jake Nichelson, Pat Nissen, Nick Pease, Devon Rezac, Eric Richards, and Richard Skov. Leading the youngsters is senior Brian Romans and junior Spencer Mumma.
The lone home track meet this season is the annual Ashland Rotary Invitational scheduled for March 27 at the Ashland-Greenwood Track Complex. The Bluejays will compete at Bennington, Gretna, Milford, Platteview and Omaha Skutt in preparation for the Capitol Conference Championships May 2nd at Arlington High School and the Class B-2 District Meet which will be held at Auburn on May 14th. Coach Reed Schwartz says “although we feature many young athletes this Spring, we look to have success this year as we build for the future”.
