Family Fiesta Night to be held at AG Elementary

Join Us on April 21st at 7:00 PM

April 14, 2009

Ashland-Greenwood Elementary Staff and the Elementary PTO will host Family Fiesta Night on Tuesday, April 21 beginning at 7:00 PM. Sarah Pearson, K-8 Spanish teacher, shared that the evening is intended to extend student’s learning of the Spanish language and culture and provide a fun and enriching evening. A world language class was introduced three years ago at the elementary school. Currently, all K-6 students receive weekly instruction in the Spanish language.

Family Fiesta Night will offer families opportunities to enjoy and learn about the Spanish language, music, art, dance, and foods. We are very excited to have the Marcos y Sabor Mariachi Band perform at this event. This local band is known for its Latino music and performs regularly in the Omaha area. Two performances are planned. The first performance begins at 7:00 PM and the second takes place at 7:40 PM.

The evening will be divided into 20 minute blocks of time. Families will have time to visit 4-5 activities during the night. Some of the activities planned for the evening include making maracas, sampling authentic foods, learning a classic Spanish dance, playing a variety of games and soccer, trying your hand at breaking a piñata, and listening to Spanish story time. Families will want to be sure and register for door prizes as well. The door prizes will be randomly drawn and announced at school on April 22nd.

Elementary staff and PTO members are looking forward to a wonderful evening. We invite all parents to attend with their children. In order for children to be successful, we need strong connections between home and school. “Be There” with your child for Family Fiesta Night!
