Family Fiesta Night
An evening of food, music, dance and more
April 26, 2009
The elementary staff and PTO hosted Family Fiesta Night the evening of April 21st. The evening offered students and their families an opportunity to learn more about the Spanish language and the Latin American culture. Family Fiesta Night was filled with music, foods, dance and many activities.
The Marcos y Sabor Mariachi Band provided two
performances this evening. Students were invited to accompany the
band with instruments and to learn new dances with one of the band
members. The sound and style of the band was enjoyed by all.
The beautiful weather enabled several of the activities
to be held outdoors. Children took turns swinging at and hitting
piñatas and playing “Colored Dot Prize Walk” to music. Futbol, a
game similar to soccer, was a favorite for many of the students.
Indoors, families tasted samples of Tres Leches cake and tomales,
listened to stories read in Spanish and learned new Latin dances.
Many families stopped in the Art Room to make maracas and then
explored a Spanish website created by Spanish teacher, Mrs.
Pearson, and played fun online games. A variety of games that
required the children to use their Spanish language skills, such as
flyswatter and Bingo, were available for families as well.
The evening provided parents an opportunity to
“Be There” and support their children’s learning. Family Fiesta
Night was well attended and provided a wonderful enrichment
experience.
