Board Reviews 2009-10 Calendar
Consideration Given to Adding Days
January 19, 2010
During the Board of Education's regular meeting in January, members reviewed and discussed the 2009-10 school calendar in light of days missed to bad weather. The school has used all of its snow days scheduled and with January just past the mid-point further loss of days is anticipated.
The board looked at all available days been now and Memorial Day for the possibility of additional make up days. The first choice was to schedule May 21 as a student day. That day had previously been planned as a vacation day for the state track meet. The board also looked at moving March 5 from a staff day to a student day with an early dismissal. The other dates under consideration to make up school include May 27 and 28.
Members agreed that school would not be dismissed, for the remainder of this year, for state NSAA tournaments and events. School will remain in session but students will be released to attend the events if Ashland-Greenwood has qualifiers in the tournaments.
A final decision on the school calendar will not be made until the board's regular meeting on February 15. Hopefully by that point in time the district will have better idea on the number of days that will need to be added to the calendar.
