Music Groups Perform Well at Districts

On Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24, Ashland-Greenwood music students took part in District Music Contest at Gretna High School. Groups are judged and given ratings of Superior, Excellent, Good, Fair, or Poor. From the Concert Band and Advanced Choir to solo performances, Ashland-Greenwood students did very well.

“I’m very proud of how the kids did,” observed choir director Pat Yunker. “If the choir can walk off of the stage and say that they did their best, that’s all I can ask.” Despite an outstanding performance, the Advanced Choir received a Division II, or Excellent, rating from the three-judge panel. The Concert Band turned in an outstanding performance of its own. All three judges rated the band as Superior, or Division I. It is believed to be the first time in school history that the band has received such high marks at District Music Contest. The Band and Advanced Choir will perform their final concert of the year on Tuesday, May 4, in the AGHS gym. Also performing on the 7:00 p.m. concert will be the Jazz Band and Senior High Choir. The program includes selections from West Side Story and Rent, along with other well-known music.
