Author Rebecca Gomez Visits School
Children’s author, Rebecca Gomez, visited Ashland-Greenwood Elementary on January 20. Ms. Gomez has co-authored two books, What About Moose and Hensel & Gretel Ninja Chicks. During her presentations, Ms. Gomez read her books and talked about her work as a writer and the process it takes to publish a book. Ms. Gomez also talked about the writing process, tools a writer uses and how her favorite part of developing a story is revising her ‘sloppy copies’. K-2nd grade students got to participate in a fun activity where they helped create a tree house picture that went along with the book, What About Moose.
Members of the elementary student council had lunch with Ms. Gomez. This provided a great opportunity for students to ask lots of questions and talk more about writing, favorite books and a variety of other topics.
The elementary PTO purchased several books that were autographed by Rebecca Gomez and given to students through a raffle system. Each teacher will receive one of Ms. Gomez’s books to add to their classroom libraries as well.
Students and staff enjoyed meeting Rebecca Gomez, listening to her stories and learning about her work as an author. With the Young Authors Program taking place in February, students will be putting their writing hats on and applying many of the ideas Ms. Gomez shared.
