Solar Eclipse Captivates Students

Elementary students had an opportunity to experience a rare event on August 21st – a solar eclipse! Students spent time last week learning about solar eclipses. Today, the staff and students moved outdoors a little before 1:00 and noticed it was getting darker and cooler.  Students then put on their safety glasses and viewed a near total eclipse – definitely a “teachable moment”! Providing an eclipse activity that students could personally experience was a great way to create interest in science and the solar system. Many parents and family members joined us for the eclipse event.  A special thanks to our PTO for purchasing the safety glasses for all staff and students.
