State FFA Convention

Make it Count!

 

This year the State FFA Convention was held April 4-6th in Lincoln Nebraska, the theme was Make it Count. That is just what Ashland Greenwood FFA members did.  Ashland Greenwood was one of 185 chapters to not only attend but to compete in this convention.  Ashland Greenwood qualified seven teams and entered two middle school quiz bowl teams.  With over 8,000 FFA members alone in attendance at this years convention, the Ashland Greenwood members represented our chapter well! 

 

Agronomy placed fourth (4th) out of 109 teams! This is the fourth year Ashland-Greenwood has been one of the top five teams for Agronomy. Members on the team included Jacob Grant (13th purple), Dylan Green (16th purple), Gabby Hill (31st purple), and McKenna Sender (41st purple). This contest has well over 400 individuals that competed by identifying soils,  insects, crops, weeds, seeds, and equipment within the agronomy industry. 

 

The welding team came out on fire! They placed fifth (5th) out of 60 teams in the state. Members on this team included Will VonRentzell (5th purple), Shenee Levin (7th blue), and Clay Allington (14th blue). Each member competed in a separate contest.  Will was our representative in the Oxygen/Acetylene, Shenee was our MIG representative, and Clay was our Shielded Metal Arc representative.  This was a district qualifying event meaning only the top five teams from each district could attend state.  

 

The agriscience team placed eighth (8th) out of 107 teams. Members of this team included McKenna Sender (42nd purple), Jaiden Tweton (49th blue), Bryce Kjar (74th blue), and Cody Grauerholz (195th white). This contest consists of a flower dissection lab, written test, and career report. 

 

The biotechnology team placed 11th out of 24 teams. Members on this team included Elizabeth Malousek (26th red), J.B. Schrader (26th red), Cassidy Smith ( 53rd), and Gabby Hill (72nd). This event consists of a written test over biology and genetics in relation to the agriculture industry.

 

The meats evaluation team placed 26th out of 108 teams. Members on this team included Teagan Harris (52nd blue), Bryce Kjar (109th blue), Ethan Hegwood (175th red), and Cinch Beetison (257th). This event consists of identifying meat cuts, judging carcasses, and a written test. 

 

The ag sales team placed 35th out of 49 teams. Members on this team included Hannah Johnson (94th white), Alicia Bohlen (100th), Teara Rieflin (113th), and Luke Sender (118th). The event this year consisted of selling cover crops individual and as a team.

 

The livestock management team placed 41st out of 48 teams. Members of this team included Cassidy Smith, Clay Allington, Kevin Tejeda-Morales, Dannie Schuster, and Elllie Stohlmann. This contest consists of practical industry skills along with a written test.

 

The middle school quiz bowl team placed third (3rd). Members on this team included Kaliska Kelley, Janice Tejeda Morales, Emily Kwarcinski, Kaitlin Pfeiffer. This event consists of answering questions quiz bowl style about the agriculture industry.

 

The Ashland-Greenwood FFA Chapter is beyond happy with how each team and individual performed during state.
