MIDDLE SCHOOL AG CLASS LEARNING ABOUT HYDROPONICS AND AEROPONICS

In the cafeteria these days you might be distracted by the bright lights in the corner.  Some say the objects look weird or like they are from outer space, but they are actually vertical grow towers.  Vegetables, fruits, and flowers can be grown in the towers through hydroponics and aeroponics (water and air) without soil.  The water is located in the basin or the rounded bottom part of the tower and is pumped up to the top where it will trickle down.  The middle school ag classes are growing lettuce in them and are taking responsibility for testing the pH, adding minerals, and for harvesting the lettuce.  Harvested produce will be picked, washed, and cut all in the same day.  The  middle school students hope you will enjoy the FRESH TASTE of the lettuce on the salad bar throughout the year.
