ASHLAND-GREENWOOD SPEECH TEAM PLACES SECOND IN DISTRICTS
On Monday, March 11th the Ashland-Greenwood Speech Team went to the B-1 District Tournament in Auburn. The Bluejays had a very successful day, taking home the Runner-Up trophy! “It was so much fun watching our kids receive medal after medal. Every single student that performed at Districts came home with a medal! It was awesome!” Head Coach Kelsy Cooper said.
The top three places advance to state. Speech team members who placed in the top three and will advance to the State Tournament in Kearney, on March 21st, are: Ella Maack 3rd place in Poetry, Spencer Koeppe 2nd place in both Extemporaneous Speaking and Informative Speaking, Alex Williams 3rd place in Entertainment Speaking, Riley Herring 2nd place in Entertainment Speaking, Elandra Johnson 3rd place in Humorous Prose, and the OID team of Elandra Johnson, Riley Herring, Nick Starns, and Eva Kellogg 3rd place.
Other medal winners were: Emily Hein 4th place in Poetry, Halle Starns 4th place in Informative Speaking, Annalise Ptacek and Sarah Wallingford 5th place in Duet Acting, Sasha Chekulaieva and McKenna Sender 6th place in Duet Acting, Sasha Chekulaieva 5th place in Persuasive Speaking, and Ella Maack 5th place in Serious Prose.
“We have an amazing group of Speech Team Members this year. A second place finish in Districts is definitely something to be proud of. All of our competitors did a great job! There were lots of tears, a few sad tears, but a lot of happy ones! Coaches Kara Farewell, Jessica Buller, and I could not be more proud of them.” Cooper beamed.
