WIESE RETIRING AT END OF SCHOOL YEAR
Randy Wiese submitted his letter of resignation to the Ashland-Greenwood Board of Education at their January 18th meeting. Wiese will retire, at the end of the school year, after twenty-three years in the Ashland-Greenwood School District. During his time here, he has served as MSHS Assistant Principal/Activities Director and even taught a section of Art one school year.
Randy, a diehard Iowa Hawkeye fan, grew up in Denison, Iowa and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and earned Master Degrees at Northwest Missouri State and Drake University. He started his career in education teaching Art in Iowa for 18 years.
Mr. Wiese has spent countless hours over the years organizing and supervising activities at Ashland-Greenwood, usually arriving at work about 5:30 a.m., after a morning run of course, and many times was one of the last people to leave the building after the last activity was over. He has been a very dedicated employee to the Ashland-Greenwood School DIstrict, staff, coaches and students, and will leave big shoes to fill.
When asked what the highlights of his career at AG were, he said the relationships with the teachers, staff and students is what makes AG a special place. He will miss those relationships, along with the other relationships that he has established with other schools and officials. His least favorite thing to deal with has been Covid, but he admires the way the AG district and families have been successful dealing with it.
Randy and his wife Karen have three children, Ben, Seth and Andrea, who have all gone through the Ashland-Greenwood School System. While Seth and Andrea live close by, Ben and his wife currently live in Indianapolis, IN with their son, Silas, who was born last June. Being able to spend more time with his family, and making trips to see that grandson, was the major decision in why he chose to retire now.
In retirement he will also have time for his hobbies which include hunting, fishing, golfing and photography. He’s also hoping to go back into tournament Walleye fishing with his brother.
One thing for sure is he may be retiring but he will still be a part of our community and you will see him cheering on the Bluejays, Hawkeyes and Huskers! Once a Bluejay, always a Bluejay! Enjoy your retirement Mr. Wiese! We will miss you!
