Young Authors is a writing program that Ashland-Greenwood Elementary School is involved in. In Young Authors every student is welcomed to write a story. Then the teachers choose what they think is the best story out of their class. The winner of each class gets to go into the library and have a pizza party with the other winners. The kindergarten winners are, Claire Kresak, Tristen Menichetti, and Jeremiah Hatfield. The first grade winners are, Tate Persival, Riddock Morgan, and Madison Parmer. The second grade winners are Hannah McCormick, Maddy Schuster, and Maddie Washburn. The third grade winners are Brittany Clark, Amber Washington, and Shaina Lusienski. The fourth grade winners are, Cody Love, Paige Teahon, and Kennedy Garner. The fifth grade winners include Mallory Nichelson, Marisa Rogers, and Mariah Dobias. The sixth grade winners are Lily Sundermeier, Danielle Wolesensky, and Celina Elliot.
A story is picked from each division (K-3 and 4-6) as the best. Their name is in the Ashland Gazette as well as getting to go to the pizza party. The top stories for 2007 are Madison Parmer from first grade and Kennedy Garner from fourth grade.
Young Authors really encourages students to write. It is a great program for this school. It makes writing a lot more fun.
